Vincent Valiente met up with at Anita who also took

part in the Sewing Circle in Berlin, Germany.
They worked from 7pm til 11pm.
The piece is called More trees in winter. He says:

"I was thinking of green politics".

Carol Chaos, Ipswich, UK used the time to finish a project and although not strictly within the rules it is definiely within the spirit of the Sewing Circle!

"I had knitted the bits of a bag & had machined felted all the parts, so the sewing circle day was a brilliant incentive to get me motivated into sewing the bag up and completing it. I am really pleased with how it turned out... I am now planning to sell it on a craft stall I will be running in March - ALL the money from the sale of my items will be going to charity, so the bag will hopefully be snapped up!"

WOW!

Well, here are all of the submissions I have

received back so far. Each of them unique

like the person that stitched them.

Initially I set a deadline of the 30th of January

but with a quite a few of you still sewing away

I'm going to extend the deadline to March 7th

(at the latest) so we can start thinking about

the next event. And, if you have any ideas for

our next event I'd be happy to hear them.

So a big thank you to all of you that have sent

me images and lovely emails so far and keep

sewing if you haven't finished yet.

LaWendula's Story: "Although I am a seamstress' daughter, I wasn't very keen on sewing before. But last year I bought a sewing machine and now I use it in a very creatiave way, sewing papers most of the times. I wanted to use linen and linen fibers, because I love them. There is some kind of purity in it and some kind of quality that I really like. Because I am dealing with fibers in my everyday life, I wanted to put fibers and yarn in my piece. And I love bags and pouches. I love the symbols of hidden secrets and this kind of a-thing-in-a-thing-symbolic, which is true feminine for me. I am the seamstress' daughter, but I do it my way.

"When I'm thinking of you" was the theme. While I was doing this, I was thinking of all my sisters in art, to whom I feel very connected. There is such richness in women's art, I can see it every day in visiting other blogs, there is an ongoing, unfolding culture of the feminine, which is both: old(fashioned) in its vintage style, but also very modern, using high tech for connecting, as the internet is. I strongly belive, that the web is connecting us all, as the word web tells us already. It has something to do with weaving, binding, connecting. It's what our ancestors always did, but on a modern level."

Cassandra sewed along at the Merchants Wharf, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK between 6pm to 9:30pm (although I'm told she took time out for dinner during that period).

"My life seems to revolve around making. Knitting, printing, sewing, drawing...even coming up with creative solutions to solve problems. And I am lucky enough to be able to do these things and talk about these things with friends and other amazing creative types. So even though most of my work is done in solitary, the work itself is usually being made for someone else, whether that it a commissioned artwork or a customer or a gift for a loved one. If you look closely at the stitching, you will notice some of the stitches have been pulled out, some of it is a bit wonky and messy. I am not completely tidy and feel a bit frazzled at times. I wanted the work to reflect this."

Robin from Brighton, England made this about his dog Tommy.

"This piece of work comes from one of my obsessions and also

from something which i now do naturally. My obsession is playing

around and entertaining my pet dog and what i naturally do now is

to talk to him, even ask him questions, for example how are you?

or where have you been? It may sound silly but I'm sure that

he knows what i mean! My dog, Tommy is someone I've always

thought about, and he has become more human-like than dog".

some ideas to get started if you haven't already!

There is also a list of details I need from you when

you submit (by the 30th Jan). You can use the form

or make your own - be as creative as you like.

This will be my final letter. So a big thank you to

I can't wait to see what will be created!

You can send me artists you like, images that inspire

you, sketch book pages etc... i'll put it up on the blog as it

might help inspire someone else.

To become a confirmed member of the Sewing Circle

I can't believe how quickly it has crept up on me. Every year
I think that I have done really well on present buying then
realise that I was mistaken, begin the panic! And to add to
the pressure this year I decided to make a lot of my gifts,
begin the making and baking. All made with 100% love and JOY!
